Until approximately a hundred years ago in the West, people only had recourse to renewable energy for heat and light for their homes. They burnt wood and sometimes coal or peat (OK, fossil fuels) and got up when the sun came up and went to bed with the sun as well. In, fact a large part of the world’s population still lives like that.

Things altered with mechanized industry and night shifts. Electricity providers sold the populace on being able to do more instead of just sleeping when it got dark, and the Western population got hooked on buying huge amounts of energy, mostly electricity and engine fuel, which was usually produced from oil and coal.

This idea soon travelled around the world and with rising affluence came emulation and other countries wanted the same. Now we are in the sad predicament where we have to admit that we rode the fossil fuel gravy train to its last stop without thinking about what we would utilize when fossil fuels ran out.

This is where the typical civilian comes in. You have to think about how you want to draw energy in the future. Do you want to be powered by keeping sucking unrenewable resources out of the Earth, or do you want to have as little to do with it as you can? Would you prefer to have everything you have now, but know that the resources that are powering your lifestyle are renewable?

If, like millions of others around the world, you would rather say ‘No!’ to traditional power production methods, then you have to take a stand. But not only in words, you really have to do some something about it physically.

This will mean investing a lot of money up front, which might not be a problem for you or you may even think that taking a stand is worth looking for a bank loan. These are admirable sentiments, but I would like to propose that there is another way to self-sufficiency.

You could make your own!

Why not? The technology has been around for decades and is fairly easy. Most reasonably competent teenagers can put together a bank of photovoltaic cells into a solar panel and then plug that into your home’s electrical system. And if a teenager can manage it, so can you. All you (and the teenager) will require is a solar panel kit and a schematical diagram. A plan in other words.

A solar panel kit can be bought locally from a DIY shop or from the Internet. A typical solar panel will take a few hours to assemble and will produce 100 watts of electrical energy. The electricity produced from these panels is then passed through an inverter that changes the current from DC to AC, making it usable by household appliances and the utility grid.

Do yourself and the planet a favour, get off the grid and start saving money and the planet’s resources, you will be surprised how easy it is once you get going. And do not forget, you can do it in stages of, say, one 100 watt panel a month until you hit self-sufficiency. It is not a question of ‘All or Nothing’.

A smart way of saving the mother earth is to recycle old car tires. It would be advisable to change your tires in a car shop that offers recycling programs because if tires are disposed improperly it could be hazardous to your health. If unused tires are stacked in large piles it tends to burn and produce tire fire fumes that releases toxic pollutants to the air which causes respiratory ailments as well as other diseases.

Old tires should be not be disregarded and disposed improperly thus stacking and piling them in a landfill will invite mosquitoes and rodents to breed in the area and even exposes you to certain diseases.

Non-biodegradable materials which contain different chemicals are what tires are made up. These chemicals are hazardous because when it leaches into the soil it can cause land and water poisoning. Car tires recycling may help protect the environment, it decrease air pollution, water, and soil contamination. Sited are a few tips that could help protect you as well as the environment from the harmful effects brought about by improper disposal of used tires.

- A good place to bring old tires to include tire retailers or service stations with tire recycling facilities. The good thing right now is that most stations have enhanced ways to recycle tires in an eco friendly manner. They’d convert the tire to something beneficial. The good thing is that some service stations would even take the tire and recycle them free of charge.

- Old tires can be shred and used to make other things such as rubberized highway asphalt, sports court, and other rubber materials used for making other products.

- You can use the old tires to make an obstacle course in your children’s playground. Aside from being inexpensive it helps your children to be trained and inclined in sports. Or you can even make a swing made up of tires; all you need is a rope and a sturdy branch where you can tie your tire swing.

- You can use the old tires as pots for your plants instead of buying new pots for your garden. You can even paint it to add more beauty and color in your garden.

- Old tires are utilized by some shoemakers as soles of worn out shoes. It’s a great idea since it not only recycles the tires but the worn out shoes as well.

- Tires can make an excellent and long lasting bumper for your boat. Assuming you have a boat.

- Your old car tires may be converted into trash bins. Additionally, using old tires as trash bins are far better than bins made from plastic and metal because it isn’t noisy.

- Burning of car tires is not a proper way of recycling a tire, thus it produces fumes that are harmful to the environment. But nowadays old tires can be burned in a vacuum environment; this process separates the raw components of tires such as oil, carbon, steel and gas. These raw materials can be reused to make new tires or for other purposes.

In only one minute, the sun produces enough energy for humans to use for an entire year. Harnessing solar power has been one of the finest accomplishments for man in the last century. There are so many options when it comes to using this powerful energy, it seems simply amazing.

Ever since the 1970s, people have been utilizing solar power. The applications started out fairly small, like handheld calculators. This was because the cost of creating solar panels was extremely high. It remains fairly high to this day but as time goes by, advances in knowledge and technology are allowing for the cost to decrease.

Solar power is also cultivated by grouping together a mass of large mirrors and using them to focus a stream of sunlight in one direction. This causes heat to rise and the heat is used as power. The suns energy is used to gather heat in solar thermal collectors. People use this method for warming their homes and buildings.

People today use the suns power to heat air and water. It is used as electricity. Solar panels fitted with cells use a photovoltaic effect to draw the suns rays through them and release electricity to the system that then supplies it to the buildings electricity needs. When regular utilities are not available due to location, this is a method that is used for power supply. People also wish to use solar power to help lower their electricity cost every month. Sometimes, using solar energy can create a credit on an electricity bill from a utility company.

Utilizing solar energy is a great way to help the environment. With the cost coming down for installation, people will eventually be able to take advantage of this method of clean heating and powering. There are a great many advantages of using any kind of natural resource. Solar power is wonderful for the environment.

People who grow crops in greenhouses use solar powered mirrors and reflectors to keep their crops growing year round. They can also grow special crops that require certain temperatures and can grow off season items. They use solar energy to dry manure and crops and to maintain temperatures in chicken coops. They also use it to pump water. The agricultural industry has embraced the concept of solar power.

There are places where laying a cable line is simply not possible, such as in space. The astronauts and all satellites working in space use the suns light to power their equipment. The sun is the only way to get that power in that position.

Heating water is another option using solar energy. These systems must come with an automatic drain feature or they will have to be manually drained in the winter months to prevent them from freezing. Heating water with this method is best in places where there is more sun than rain or freezing temperatures.

Help save the environment with solar panel systems. Solar panels Canada help reduce your energy bills and carbon footprint.

When it comes to converting your home into a solar home, there are several alternatives, because not all homes have the same problems, the same requirements or the same potential sustainable power sources. Therefore, if you are going to try a total conversion or even get off the grid completely, you will either need to do some do research or call in an expert to make a survey for you.

If you call in an expert, try to get an independent one, so that you can work out the prices of satisfying your energy requirements yourself. You will have to pay for such a report, of course, but you could carry out a report yourself with a bit of work on your behalf. In order to produce a solar home, you may find the rest of this piece interesting.

There are fundamentally two kinds of solar design: passive and active solar energy. Passive solar energy can be used to provide heating, cooling and natural light for your home. Active solar energy is used for powering home appliances, tools and lighting. It is the perfect blend of these two types of solar energy that you will attempt to accomplish, if you are trying to convert your home into a solar home.

You can make use of passive solar energy methods in many ways, although they are more easily built in during the actual construction phase of a new home. The largest area of glass should face south or be within 30 degrees of due south. This will catch the maximum amount of heat. This heat can then be distributed around the house by stone floors and stone walls.

The central heating ducting and furnace fan can be used to assist, if necessary. If the house becomes too hot in the summer, awnings or even solar panels could be dropped down in order to put the windows in shadow. When thinking of passive solar energy, you should try to think of means of supplying warmth and coolness without using electricity. For instance, a skylight at the top of the stairs will permit the warmest air in the house to escape, since hot air rises. This will result in cooler air to be sucked into the house at lower levels.

The other feature of a solar house is the generation of electricity by the deployment of solar panels grouped into solar arrays. Solar panels make use of photovoltaic cells to convert light into energy. This energy can then be used to power ordinary electrical appliances of all kinds or some or all of it can be stored in batteries for later use. Conversion from AC (alternating current) to DC (direct current) and back again, if necessary, is a simple matter.

Solar energy can also be used to heat water for the pool or for the home. The most usual type of system uses pipes filled with a type of anti-freeze to collect the sun’s heat and pass it on to tanks of water by means of a heat exchanger.

A solar home uses energy efficiency to minimize the necessity for heating, cooling and electricity. The use of higher grade lagging, more energy efficient windows, kitchen appliances and lighting than those utilized in traditional homes, will save you a lot of money and energy. As you can see, some of these changes, particularly the passive ones are structural, so hard to apply in many homes, but there is always something you can do to reduce your energy bills and gradually convert your home into a solar home.

Green energy is gradually gaining popularity in these present times due to the fact that the economic crisis has placed much emphasis on the extensive use of expensive fossil fuel products. It seems that many people are starting to see that actively harnessing natural sources of energy can create useful renewable energy that may be able to sustain the needs of civilization for a very long time.

Solar energy is perhaps the more popular type of energy source that is being actively used today. Many small villages and remote areas are already experiencing the benefits of using solar energy generated with the help of solar panels, donated by many non-profit organizations, to help them become self sufficient with what available energy they can harness for their daily needs.

Wind energy can be harnessed when airflow passes through wind turbines that act as mechanical motors for power generation. If there is an increase in wind speed, there is a larger amount of power output. This is practical for many places where the wind velocities are strong, mainly in offshore or coastal areas that are in high altitude locations. Wind turbines occupy large areas, and these are referred to as wind farms.

The heat that comes up naturally from the earth’s core is also used to produce geothermal heat that can be utilized in many ways. This is usually tapped from areas whose surfaces have high heat generation such as hot springs or volcanic rock, usually found in countries that are deemed geologically unstable.

Water can also produce a significant amount of energy either when it is still or when flowing – and this is seen in forms of hydropower, hydroelectric power, kinetic energy, and ocean energy. The methods for harnessing the energy vary depending upon the water source, but the supply is significant enough to produce mass amounts of power.

Pollution that is caused by the consistent utilization of fossil fuels has been a major issue all over the world today, and many countries are beginning to come out with bills that are in the interest of cleaning up air and water sources that have otherwise already been polluted by petroleum by-products. Toxic materials accumulated over the years have created many problems to human health as well as the overall protective layer of the ozone.

Renewable energy, if promoted and used by many more individuals and corporations, can have extensive benefits for the long term. Putting an end or limitation to the dependence on fossil fuels can be the first step towards rehabilitation of the earth’s natural pure air and water, with the help of additional programs to gradually clean up the pollution.

There are many alarming health issues that arise from the air pollution that exists in many cities and countries today. Mostly, children are affected as this aggravates asthma symptoms in their delicate lungs and can lead to gradual death. The small particles that are polluting the air also have been known to cause deaths by heart and lung diseases. Unlike fossil fuels, renewable energy sources have little, if at all any, by-products that can pollute air or water, and these are considerably safer to use.

Economically, green energy has proven its point in saving billions in the industry of energy production, resulting in larger sources of alternative energy that will sustain many people for a long, long time. The restructuring of policies to make renewable energy a requirement in many countries would clearly be welcomed by many individuals who wish for the next generation to be healthier and to have less worry about pollution and other costly issues about waste management.

It’s possible to run your business through more innovative ways by utilizing green energy inventions like wind power and other alternative energy solutions that make your process more environmental and efficient!
