The loss of more older trees is the outcome of rising consumption of paper including books and papers. It is frustrating to imagine how long it could take to see them replaced. This means that reusing and recycling paper has become even more crucial nowadays than it ever was.

All paper, including books and mags, are virtually wholly biodegradable, meaning they don’t choke landfills for many years and will just degrade into nothing. The fact that there is a need for more paper makes it seem stupid not to reuse as much as we possibly can. That is why we must reuse and recycle.

The conventional method of reusing paper is by using recycling facilities. Cities and towns have numerous centers for recycling and you will likewise discover these at the large supermarkets. You may find that your local community provides various bins so you can sort your paper for recycling. So that the paper can be usable once again, the paper recycling process must be put in place. This will help forestall the loss of many trees. If there are staples in mags or book pages to keep them together, this can create troubles for the recycling procedure. Some recycling businesses are finding ways to sort the metal by utilizing magnets and more techniques are being constantly developed.

Mags and books can be recycled, it is simply a matter of using our imaginativeness. Mags and books particularly hold a lot of info and knowledge that can be passed down to the next generations, so you can pass down books and mags to your kids or grandchildren, or even other folks. An old book will be usable to another person and it is easy for us discard of it in this manner.

If you own a lot of books that you don’t want then think about donating them to a library or to a charity shop. Books and magazines that are still in good condition will oftentimes be welcomed by your library. The library and the public will be happy as they will have more reading options. So, remember your library before you toss your next book.

If you prefer to sell your books, you have a lot of alternatives, including selling them on the Internet or at car boot sales. There are sites like Amazon and eBay where you will be able to sell old books and make money from them in the process.

There are less trees as a consequence of how much paper is used. We need trees for the Earth’s health and the creatures that depend on them. There are good deal of alternatives for us to recycle paper and to see to it that books and mags are reused instead of discarded.

Unless you are involved in the construction industry, you likely have never heard of the ultimate green lumber. Decks and deck furniture are typical uses of this product, which any environmentally conscious man or women will support wholeheartedly. The ultimate green lumber is also know by the following names: envirowood, plastic lumber, poly-wood, permo-wood, and eco-lumber. This revolutionary material that has transformed the patio furniture industry is both economically viable and environmentally friendly.

The end product seems like a piece of lumber, but the impressive thing is that there is no wood in it, only milk jugs and other recycled plastic containers. This green product doesn’t simply look like lumber, it also has the same feel and can be tooled, cut and sawed like any typical piece of lumber. The ultimate green lumber has found many applications aside from decking, such as patio furniture, outdoor tables and benches and playground equipment. Plastic is being recycled on a progressive scale, and a product application like the ultimate green lumber is a great way to utilize it. Ten years ago, 234 million pounds of plastic materials were recycled, and that number has now increased to 1.5 billion pounds.

Hardwood lumber does have a couple of downsides, such as the chemical treatment it requires to protect it against insects. Wood does start to rot when exposed and demands regular re-finishing; left untreated it will eventually rot. Plastic lumber will not leak and contaminate the soil because it contains no dangerous chemicals. The only care it needs is to, now and then, clean it off with a hose. It doesn’t matter where you dwell, the plastic lumber has been built to withstand tropical sun, hard winters, and coastal weather that is salty and windy.

This eco-wood should not be mistaken for some thin, plastic product that has been made into chairs, like you see on many decks. The ultimate green lumber is a heavy material, and can be purchased in 2×4 and 2×6 thicknesses. The ultimate green lumber could be sawed and cut just as you would normal hardwood, and screwed down. Popular uses of the ultimate green lumber were for deck and poolside applications, but new uses are daily presenting themselves. Plastic created into lumber is something you can use as opposed to regular hardwood which you will also find economical. Plastic lumber does not rot, it does not splinter, bugs don’t care for it and it can be used in numerous ways.

You will help in the effort to kill fewer trees by choosing to use furniture constructed from plastic lumber. Preserving trees and forests is at the top of the list of conservationists. This has added to the impetus for discovering more ways to use lumber from recycled plastic, not just from an environmental position but from an economic one also. Plastic lumber doesn’t involve any upkeep and it helps the environment.

Recycled office supplies in many paper categories have been around since the late 1980′s. Recycled copy paper, hanging folders, classification folders and notebooks all have been on the market for a couple of decades, and have gone a long way in helping to “reuse” the paper and corrugated items that people are actually recycling. Recently many new items, particularly plastic based office products, have come on the scene offering consumers green office supply choices that are kinder to our planet.

It’s great that more and more people are recycling today. As we continue to recycle, we need to remember that to allow the recycling process to come full circle we need to frequently purchase recycled products so that we can recycle the goods we use as often as possible. Luckily, contributing to the recycling triangle is made easier by the great number of current office supplies on the market manufactured from recycled material. Let’s look at some quality green office product alternatives you may be unfamiliar with that will help you help the planet.

You know that there are a multitude of recycled paper alternatives, but did you know there are many choices when it comes to recycled pens to write on that recycled paper? The Paper Mate FlexGrip recycled ball point pen is my preferred recycled pen. With bottled water sales soaring worldwide, think about all of the plastic bottles that get recycled. The raw material PET is used to make these plastics to reuse recyclable materials and reduce the amount of waste that may find its way to landfills. When you’re shopping for a chair mat for your business or home office in the future think about the Floortex mat called the RevolutionMat, produced from 100% recycled PET. Check out item FLRECO4851EP. It’s a large 48 x 51 inch chair mat that has a smooth backing type to protect hard floors and, of course, it’s a green office product that is good for the environment.

You can also reuse PET by purchasing many common, every day products such as drink cups. Eco-Products are reputable for making high quality recycled plastic products. Their cold cups, which may also be bought for home or office needs, are made from 50% post-consumer PET and come in many different individual and pack sizes. The item ECOEPCR9PK is a smaller, 9-ounce pack of 50 cold cups.

Most traditional binders like view binders are not green office products because the vinyl used to make them is not made of recycled material. A new office supply company called ReBinder offers recycled binders that are themselves 100% recyclable.

ReBinder’s Zero Waste Binders come from 70% recycled materials. The metals in the product can actually be removed to be recycled in a metal recycling storage area and the binder itself in the corrugate recycling area when you’re finished using the binder. Maka Foundation is supporting a number of programs to support conservation and species recovery initiatives. Specifically established to champion projects that aim to improve the environmental conditions of habitats the world over, we try to reach out to efforts such as the restoration of locales that have gone awry due to one reason or another, and consolidating the locales.

Realising that education forms one of the most effective ways to instil public awareness and appreciation on matters relating to the environmental challenges we are facing today, Maka Foundation pays much attention and interest on it. Not only do we support campaigns in this direction, we also invite our tribal members to team up with us in our numerous recovery initiatives.

One of the projects we have supported in the past was at the Lower Brule Sioux Reservation in North America. For instance, a program to reintroduce black footed ferrets to tribal lands was carried out in 2005. The program first focused on breeding efforts of the first generation of ferrets born in the wild.

The program also has a more extended purpose to ensure that the ferrets’ community would be self-sustaining in the long run, with its birth as well as death rates similar to any other natural self sustaining populations in the wilderness.

In the past, the Lower Brule Sioux Reservation had been working along similar lines on other flora and fauna in the area, including on elk, wild turkey, and bison. Given the fact that the area is home to native plants known to have the potential for new medicinal applications, the reservation authorities looked into this matter as well.

In addition, there are a number of programs that fulfil various other environmentally related concerns. Some of the programs have just started, while some are way in the process, and others are either completed or near completion.

One of our latest attentions is that of eco-tourism. We believe the pursuance of this niche in tourism will play a big role in boosting not only the appropriate funding (in terms of the money paid in as part of the tourists’ travelling expenses), but also, more importantly, the awareness borne out of the experience. With such an awareness and appreciation, eco-travellers will be able to speak on our behalf in our quest to achieve environmental understanding.

The availability of programs that support species recovery is made quite easy today, with Maka Foundation aspiring to facilitate the process so as to reach out to as many interested and concerned world citizens as possible. We will be pleased to discuss with you on how you can get involved in one or a few of our programs. Do give us a call.

The sight of people living off the land, yielding crops and clothes for themselves is how a greener lifestyle could be imagined by some people. Nevertheless, greener living can be achieved without making such a radical shift in the manner in which you live your life. Empty bottles and cans are still being routinely disposed with our daily scraps. In the interests of succeeding generations, you can play a role by recycling these empty cans and bottles whenever opportunity presents itself.

Items such as tin cans are merely one part of this. I would hazard a guess that you will find more recycling possibilities if you take a look at your rubbish more thoroughly. In this article, we will be taking a look at a number of things that a lot of people never think about recycling.

To begin with, newspapers are recyclable. Probably millions of people everyday get the daily newspaper and when they are done reading it, they simply throw them away. Many individuals don’t think about recycling these newspapers. The truth is that newspapers must be considered for recycling since they are produced from paper. Think of how many trees would be saved yearly as a result of more people having their newspapers recycled. Nonetheless, it doesn’t end with recycling old newspapers. It is possible to recycle numerous paper products as opposed to putting them with your regular trash. Cardboard boxes can also be put in the recycle bin although in many cases this is not being done.

Additionally, food containers are something that many individuals should consider recycling. Plastic food jars and cans like ketchup bottles, mayonnaise containers and even pickle jars can be recycled. But many people finish the bottles or containers and simply throw them in the garbage can. It is cost-efficient for these type of things to be recycled as they will be used in future goods and it is also good for the environment to do this. And when the production of containers is reduced because people choose to recycle, the smoke stacks from those factories also don’t give rise to so much pollution.

In considering what else can be recycled, clothes tend to be ignored in this respect. Clothes can be used for all types of other things. Old clothes for recycling are being used by companies to produce insulation for houses. As such, unwanted clothing is not finding its way to landfill sites and because of the cotton materials, this insulation is thought to be safe. It is worth remembering therefore that a torn shirt should not merely be disposed of. That shirt full of holes may still be utilized for something else.

Papers, glass and plastics are recyclable items and it is essential that you try to remember this. Which also means that basically everything you throw in to your garbage bin can be recycled. If more individuals went about recycling everything that can be recycled, we would be able to help the planet earth more than anyone can possibly imagine. Now is the time to recycle if you want to enjoy a greener way of life.

Fossil fuels have been an energy staple for a long time, supplying us with heat and electricity as well as fuel for our cars. We’re using significantly greater amounts than before, so it’s really no wonder that people question if we’ll deplete the supplies. Obviously, it’s difficult to tell exactly how much is available as the majority is still underground and it is not easy to determine who is telling the truth. It certainly is true, that the pollution that is caused from making use of fossil fuels is causing problems for the planet. Making use of green energy sources is something that folks can do to make the world a much better place to live.

Though it can be hard to abruptly start using green energy sources instead of fossil fuels, just doing things to use a combination of the two will improve the situation. As a matter of fact, green sources of energy may not be able to supply all of the world’s energy, but making any changes is preferred to making none at all. Imagine how our world would change if hybrid motor vehicles replaced those fueled by gasoline. Each time a vehicle uses something other than a fossil fuel, the atmosphere gets cleaner. The environment is not hurt in any way when eco-friendly sources of energy like solar, wind, or geothermal are used.

Energy that comes from coal or nuclear sources causes the exact opposite effect. Coal plants release carbon dioxide into the environment, which might not seem to be a problem except that more than 50,000 coal plants are operating all over the world. In the foreseeable future, more coal plants will be created and so the problem will increase. If the nuclear power plants don’t encounter any problems, no pollutants contaminate the air, yet there is still the problem of getting rid of nuclear waste. If an accident takes place, a lot of problems are going to follow. Although eco-friendly energy sources can have difficulties, on the whole they don’t cost as much to keep running and can save money in overall operating expenses.

One excellent reason to utilize environment friendly sources of energy is that they are renewable. In the event the sun stops shining at some point, hardly anything else will be important in the grand scheme of things. Though many locations have little or no wind, other locations are really windy year round and could definitely benefit from wind power. When the fossil fuels are depleted, something else will need to be used, so why not begin right now, as opposed to leaving the problem for the next generation. Although almost all of our energy issues have available answers, most people still continue to talk but not do something.

Unless we’re ready to take measures to improve things, there’s no point in repeatedly talking about environmental problems and alternative fuel sources. More than likely, absolutely nothing will happen if we leave it up to the individual. It’s going to only happen with the leadership of governments and huge businesses.

In this, part two of our almost-too-thorough guide to recycling nearly everything, it might be good to consider some positive statistics: In 2009 nearly 34% of the 243 million tons of US waste was recycled. That kept about 178 million metric tons of carbon dioxide from being released into the air we breathe. That equates to eliminating the yearly emissions of 33 million cars! Here is Part 2 of our A to Z listing of how to recycle nearly everything:

Cars, trucks, boats or other vehicles: It doesn’t matter whether your old car, truck or boat runs or not, the best way to recycle any vehicle you aren’t using is to donate it to charity. It’s not just win-win – it’s a win-win-win situation! First the donated car gets a second life, possibly as reliable transportation for a needy person, or when the rubber, metal, plastic and glass in the car are scrapped and recycled. Then the charity gets the money they need to help people through local programs. The third win — if you itemize your taxes you can claim a tax deduction! Go to CarsHelpingPeople.org for information on free pickup, car donation tax deductions and programs that use your car donation to help people in your area. Carshelpingpeople.org also shows you how to avoid charity car donation scams, so your donation doesn’t line the pocket of a scam artist.

Cell Phones: This is a big area for improvement. The EPA reports that only 20% of cell phones get recycled. The problem – even though 84% of people know cell phones can be recycled, they don’t know where to drop their phones for recycling. Like charity car donation programs, charity phone donation programs can provide an important solution here. Go to gowirelessgogreen.org to find out how to recycle your cell phone and keep tons of toxins out of the eco system.

CFLs (compact Fluorescent light bulbs): The same Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs undoubtedly save energy, but unfortunately they also contain a good dose of toxic mercury and should never be thrown in the garbage to end up in a landfill. Check with your trash disposal service or municipal government to see if they provide recycling services for CFLs – there are many that do. You local Home Depot store also provides CFL recycling.

Computers: Many computer makers also take old computers back for recycling. So do many computer retailers. See greenergadgets.org and type in your zip code for a list of computer recycling programs in your community. Also, be aware of computer recycling days from your local government.

Crayons: Yes, that’s right, you can recycle crayons. The National Crayon Recycle Program melts them down and uses them to make new ones. Don’t take the wrappers off, It helps them tell the colors apart. Go to crazycrayons.com for more information.

Crocs: Got an old pair of the rubbery footwear? Don’t throw them in the trash – if they’re still wearable you can recycle them. Crocs has given out over 3 million pairs of shoes in over 40 countries through their Crocs Cares program. Go to crocscares.com to find out more.

Cans (powdered cleanses): If you have empty cans of powdered cleanser like Ajax or Comet, simply cut the metal end off and put it in the recycling bin with other metal items. Then place the cardboard tube in the cardboard recycling bin.

Cans (food): Your garbage service or municipality almost certainly offers recycling for metal food cans. If they don’t, go to recycle-steel.org (yes, most food cans are steel – one the most recycled products on the planet). When you’re there click on recycling resources to find a list of local steel recycling centers.

DVDs, CDs and their cases: Want to swap an old movie or CD that you don’t care for anymore for one you like? Zunafish.com is a site where people trade, swap and barter goods and services – including CDs and DVDs. Doubtful that anyone would want to swap for your DVD of Troll 2? Water conservation is important for various reasons, with economics playing a large role. Landscape watering is expensive, and can create runoff, which in of its self can be destructive and wasteful. There are however, ways to conserve water and prevent runoff when planning a desert landscape. Get creative and think about hiring a company that specializes in xeriscaping. Timers can be installed at the source as a means of conservation, as well. At any point in the water line tee connections can be added to extend the system. Owners using a drip irrigation system should be mindful of each plants water requirements. Over watering is simply wasting water, so when setting the timer ensure the plants are getting enough, while not over watering.

Desert landscaping or xeriscaping, which means dry landscape, combines what nature provides with some planning and ingenuity to conserve water. To put some perspective on how much water it actually takes to maintain a lawn here is a formula. It takes approximately .6230 gallons of water per square foot to equal one inch of watering. Therefore, it takes 62 gallons of water, for every 100 square feet of lawn. Imagine doing this daily. On average during the summer months, it takes 1,000 gallons of water daily to maintain a yard.

Owners can begin conserving water by using xeriscaping techniques. First, determine what plants are native to the dry climate. Plants such as Dwarf Conifers, pampas grasses, and many varieties of cacti thrive in dry conditions. Oleander bushes along with Crape Myrtles are hardy shrubs that require little water and maintenance. This is a good choice for desert climates and landscapes. Once the water lines are secured and working properly mulch to cover the lines. The water is applied under the mulch, so evaporation is no longer such a concern.

Obviously, all plants need water however, how efficiently that water is applied and conserved can make all the difference. One way to design a garden or flower bed is to elevate the growing surface, and tier the plants from top to bottom. The plants at the bottom will receive more water during rains or watering sessions. The water, will of course, drain from top to bottom, watering all plants as it drains. Flat surfaces simply allow water to drain straight down.

Plant the tallest shrubs or bushes to provide cover for shade loving plants. Providing protection from the sun also prevents rapid evaporation. Mulching the flowerbeds also traps moisture close to the soil and protects plants from the desert heat. Plant colorful succulents such as red and orange Aloe Vera. These are great additions to any garden. These can be grouped in front of larger plants such as dwarf pines and colored fountain grasses. The succulents provide a tropical feel to any garden, and do not compete with other plants for water.

One of the byproducts of running a successful manufacturing business, retail store or virtually any type of business is garbage. Packaging materials, waste from different business processes and just regular trash can pile up very quickly as a company goes about its daily business. Whether your business is in a busy retail area or more secluded industrial area, the need to deal with the trash it produces is the same. Letting garbage pile up inside or outside is just bad for business in a number of different ways. The way that many companies deal with this problem is by using a commercial trash compactor to lighten the load. As the name suggests, a trash compactor makes your trash smaller, which creates several different benefits for your business.

Convenience and efficiency are two of the primary benefits of keeping a trash compactor around when you own a business. An efficient trash compactor may only have to be emptied once for every 20 times that traditional garbage collection methods would have to be used. The actual number will vary depending on your trash compactor and how much trash your business produces, but the efficiency of the entire process will be greatly enhanced, regardless. And with the trash being tightly compacted inside the unit, it enhances the look and neatness of the surrounding area. In a retail store, garbage can sometimes overflow the bins behind the store and inadvertently affect the image of the business. The sloppy look of too much trash in the bins is basically eliminated when a good trash compactor is used.

If your business has to pay to have extra waste hauled away, a good trash compactor will alleviate much of that expense, as it has to be emptied so infrequently. In most cases, the investment in a trash compactor pays for itself relatively quickly, as you can realize savings in haulage, garbage bags and labor. No one really considers employees taking bags of garbage out to the dumpster as an expense, but when those trips are dramatically reduced from using a trash compactor, you can assign the employees different tasks that will actually help production. The garbage bag savings are another small expense that most people wouldn’t even consider, but over time the savings will multiply.

Of course, every business is out to create a more environmentally friendly kind of image these days, and a trash compactor can help with that, as well. Everything from using fewer bags, to taking up less space in landfills, to fewer trips by the trucks that haul the garbage will enhance the ‘green’ image of a business.

Using a trash compactor, especially in indoor areas of industrial buildings, can also enhance employee safety. Packaging materials and other waste that overflows the bins or is being stored while waiting to be hauled away can be a hazard. Employees may slip and fall and the potential for fire is greatly with loosely stored cardboard or other materials.

In North Carolina in 1960, David Chaney and his team produced the very first acceptable artificial grass. You could easily recognise it as fake grass. Since then with research and development, you need to take a closer look and even then you would still be in doubt. Artificial grass today looks very much likenatural grass. Artificial grass use increases every year.

The significant long term benefits outweigh the initial cost. This fake grass is built to be durable and resistant to all weather conditions. It will remain in excellent condition even whenj it has to accomodate excessive or heavy use. Not only will your grass remain lush green, it will not need fertilisers, weed killers, moss killers or pesticides. The use of these unpleasant chemicals is very high in USA and Europe.

A hot topic today is the environment. A little known fact is that as much as 75% of water usage by households in USA is on lawn up keep in periods of dry weather. With artificial grass, there is no watering. Without water, natural grass will look limp, brown and dry. You may see patches where the grass has died. Your fake grass will look great whatever the time of year it is. In winter, it is great to look out onto lust grass that does not need mowing while your neighbour’s lawn looks in need of attention.

There is a positive gain to the environment when you change over from natural grass to artificial grass lawns. You do not have to mow the lawn anymore and there are no cut grass to collect and store. Petrol mowers rank very high as major polluters globally. As there is no cut grass to collect, there will be no release of greenhouse gas, methane. When collected cut grass decomposes, methane is released. You are, therefore, helping planet Earth and going green by the change over.

Asthma, hayfever and other seasonal allergies are common in summer. Statistics show that allergies are on the increase. Hayfever and some other allergic conditions such as urticaria are due to an allergy to grass pollen. Some sufferers need strong steroid drugs to control their condition when the pollen count is very high. It makes good sense to install fake grass if there is grass pollen allergy in the family. Kids can happily play on artificial grass lawns.

Artificial grass lawn is the choice if you have pets and children. The grass dies in areas that pets urinate on. Not so with fake grass. Children can play throughout the year on synthetic grass. It is tough and durable and will withstand any heavy use by family and pets. Artificial grass lawns work well for busy families with little leisure time. It is also a good choice for the elderly.

Steve Fall is Manager of Easylifelawns. If you require info. on synthetic grass or you need advice on artificial grass then go to his website and learn the easiestway to do it yourself or the type of fake grass to use.
