Every cordless power tool works on batteries, whether it is cordless phone or some other cordless tool. It is not always necessary to consider battery voltage while choosing it for your power tool batteries. For the battery tools, it is necessary to look in to the factors such as ampere/hour and battery type. It has been seen that due to battery performance many 14.2 volt tools outperforms 19.4 volt tools.

To rate a cordless tool battery, ampherage hours and voltage are used. You should not be surprised to know that amperage hours are used to determine how long a battery will last and voltage refers to the flow or strength of the electrical current.

It has been proved that higher the voltage in conjunction with higher amp/hr the stronger the battery. You will find that cordless power tool batteries are usually available in 1.4, 2.4 and 3.0 amp/hr. You can find these ratings either at the upper or the lower end of the battery.

When choosing a Cordless Power tool battery, you need also consider the charging time. Many old batteries need to be charged every hour whereas the output of work is too less. And, usually they need to be charged for more than six hours. But, if you have more work to do then it will be total wastage of time. Batteries of good companies such as Makita, Bosch, Hitachi, etc., usually require just 15 to 20 minutes getting recharged.

When purchasing high cost power tool batteries it is also important to follow maintenance instructions given by manufacturers. Batteries need to be serviced regularly for longer life. And, once the battery is worn out it needs to be replaced. But, during replacement it’s economical to change the entire tool kit. This will cost less compare to purchase of new two batteries.
