Nokia and Apple top the list for the mobile phone brands most recycled in the U.K, according to a recent report.
Out of the ten models most frequently sold to recycling companies, the Telegraph reports that the two manufacturers landed in nine of the spots – the iPhone 3G 16 GB, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and the Nokia 6300 were among them – with the tenth favourite being the Samsung S5230 Tocco Lite.
Perhaps not surprisingly, the iPhone and Nokia’s slide handsets have been some of the most popular phones in Britain in recent years, and when you consider the statistic that consumers who value style are more likely to upgrade their phone more often, it is easy to see how this has resulted in many more of these models being recycled. Their rise in popularity coincides perfectly with their rising rate of being sold off to recycling companies, and in just this year alone it is estimated that over a million people in the UK will buy a new phone.
It used to be the case that, in order to make some money from an old phone, the only options were to either trade it in or try and exchange it for a discount on answer model, whereas now mobile phone recycling companies are popping up all over the place and promise cash for old phones. This can be as much as 200 for an iPhone 3G.
This process of recycling is made even easier, however, with the advent of sites like Compare and Recycle, which lists many different recycling companies and the price they will pay for your old phone, as well as shipping options that they provide. They also promise that all of the companies that are listed are responsible and deal with old consumer electronics in an environmentally friendly way, either reselling them in poorer countries or donating to charity, or if neither can be done they will dispose of all parts properly.
It’s easy to see why more and more people are recycling their old phones. Why not find out just how easy it is to sell mobile phones for cash and make some money today?
